Acne is a prevalent skin condition that affects millions of people worldwide and can be frustrating to deal with, Despite the availability of many over-the-counter products claiming to treat acne, they often come with side effects or fail to deliver the desired results. Thankfully, there are proven skincare tips that can help you bid farewell to acne for good.

1. Cleanse Your Face Twice Daily

One of the most important things you can do to prevent and treat acne is to cleanse your face twice daily.

Use a gentle cleanser that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils. Avoid harsh scrubs or exfoliants that can irritate your skin and make your acne worse.

2. Moisturize Your Skin

Many people with acn e think that they should avoid moisturizing their skin, but this is a common misconception. In fact, moisturizing can help to prevent dryness and irritation, which can make acne worse. Look for a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer that won’t clog your pores.

3. Use Sunscreen Daily

Exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays can make acne worse and can also cause scarring. Protect your skin by wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day, even when it’s cloudy outside.

4. Use Non-Comedogenic Makeup

If you wear makeup, choose products that are labeled as non-comedogenic, which means they won’t clog your pores. Avoid heavy or oil-based makeup, which can exacerbate acne.

5. Don’t Pick or Squeeze Your Pimples

As tempting as it may be, picking or squeezing your pimples can make them worse and can also lead to scarring. Instead, let your skin heal on its own or talk to your dermatologist about safe ways to extract pimples.

6. Try Over-the-Counter Products

There are many over-the-counter products available that can help to treat acne. Look for products that contain benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or alpha-hydroxy acids, which can help to unclog pores and reduce inflammation. Be sure to follow the instructions carefully and don’t overuse these products, as they can be drying and irritating to the skin.

7. Consider Prescription Medications

If your acne is severe or doesn’t respond to over-the-counter treatments, talk to your dermatologist about prescription medications. Options may include topical retinoids, antibiotics, or oral contraceptives (for women). Your dermatologist can help you determine the best course of treatment for your individual needs.

8. Practice Good Hygiene

Good hygiene can go a long way in preventing acne. Wash your pillowcases and towels regularly, avoid touching your face with your hands, and avoid sharing makeup or skincare products with others.

9. Avoid Triggers

For some people, certain foods or environmental factors can trigger acne. Keep a journal to track when your acne flares up and try to identify any patterns. Common triggers include dairy, sugar, and stress.

10. Be Patient
